President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Advocates for the Development of Full-Scale Partnership with JICA

On January 21, 2025 President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a Japanese delegation led by the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Akihiko Tanaka. The discussion focused on expanding practical cooperation and promoting joint initiatives with this leading international financial institution. The leader of Uzbekistan noted with satisfaction that the current visit by the head of JICA opens a new phase in cooperation in the economic and financial-technical sectors. He emphasized the agency's role as a strategic partner in supporting reforms for the construction of New Uzbekistan.
Currently, the portfolio of joint projects in energy, transport, agriculture, water management, healthcare, education, and other fields exceeds $8 billion. Last year, a three-year cooperation program was adopted.
The Uzbek-Japanese Human Resource Development Center and the Youth Innovation Center are functioning effectively. Through JICA, over 2,500 Uzbek specialists have undergone training courses and internships in Japan. Volunteers from Japan contribute to the implementation of important social and humanitarian projects in Uzbekistan.
Additionally, an agreement was signed the day before regarding the construction and equipping of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Neurology and Stroke in Tashkent.
President Mirziyoyev supported plans to expand JICA's activities in Uzbekistan. The importance of private sector projects, the creation of a special economic zone for Japanese investors, the establishment of a Japanese university, and partnerships in vocational education were also highlighted.
